What’s the best way to meet new people while traveling?

Learn first about where you’re traveling to. There are different norms when it comes to smiling, making eye contact, and approaching people. But generally, asking for directions is one way. Then see if you can engage them in conversation. Another way might be to ask something of a person at a neighboring table at a restaurant, or in a train car, or on a boat ride. I want to end with a caution. I recommend being the initiator, otherwise you might be being drawn into a scam.
